Forum Update and October 1, 2015 SFTC Picks

We have fixed the security issues on here, so that should not be an issue moving forward.  However, we are working on fixing the forum and getting that back up and running.  That may take a few days unfortunately, but it will be back.  Thank you for your patience.  I will continue to post picks here.

I’m purposely leaving out certain picks in the monthly wins path to maintain a competitive edge.  I am always available on the forum (once it’s back up running again) for advice.

1. Tottenham

2. Schalke: Schalke come from the far superior Bundesliga compared to Asteras Tripolis from the Greek Super League.  Tripolis has won just 1 away match in their last 23 tries including all competitions.  That is simply dreadful.  They face a strong Schalke team at home who has won 5 straight overall.  I think Schalke takes this one 2-0.

3. Liverpool

4. 3:45 PM MLB: Dodgers @ Giants

The Dodgers are still battling the Mets for home field advantage in the NLDS.  The Dodgers are 2-2 in Anderson’s starts against the Giants this season.  Current Giants hitters are .325 lifetime off Anderson.  Anderson has a 3.14 road ERA.  The Giants are 21-21 vs LHP this season and 45-31 at home.   Hudson is 2-0 against the Dodgers this season and pitched very well in both starts.  This could be the last start of his career, so he will obviously want to go out on a high note.  I like the Giants at home here.

Pick: Giants

5. 8:25 PM NFL: Ravens @ Steelers

A few days ago I would have been extremely confident in the Steelers, but now that Big Ben is out it is a whole different ball game.  This is likely the last harrah for Vick as a starter in this league and he gets his first crack of the season against their bitter division rivals.  This is a desperation game for the Ravens, while it is the start of survival mode for the Steelers.  Unlike last year when Vick played for the Jets, he now has a ton of weapons to work with.  Le’Veon Bell is back and they still have the most electric WR in the game in Antonio Brown.  Vick looked pretty awful last year and also in his short time last week against the Rams.  I don’t have much faith that he can look even like a shell of his old self, but he may not need to.  He just needs to avoid costly turnovers.  Manage the game, pick your spots when you take off and run, and utilize your weapons.  Heath Miller is still a nice security blanket at TE, Brown can bail you out of tough situations, and Bell is a beast.  Throw some dump offs to Bell and let him work his magic.  Throw some screens to Brown.  Their defense is a big question mark, but they aren’t facing the most potent offense in the world here.  On the other side, the Ravens have lost some really tight games and are 0-3 for the first time ever.  They need this game badly and that is an understatement.  Flacco has played well against the Steelers over the last few years for the most part and he hasn’t been that bad this season.  Meanwhile Steve Smith has been phenomenal.  Maybe he shouldn’t retire just yet.  They’ve committed way too many penalties and aren’t getting the defensive stops when they need them.  Losing Suggs was huge for them on the defensive side.  This isn’t a playoff team with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the same division.  The Ravens are currently favored by -2.5 and -150 on the moneyline.  That’s probably about what it should be with Big Ben out.  I want to see the Steelers win this because I think they are a very exciting and fun team to watch.  I do not like the Ravens as a fan after they beat my 49ers in the Super Bowl.  However, Vick is on short rest and hasn’t had much time to prepare for today.  It could take him some time to get in the flow of the game.  My very slight lean is towards the Ravens here.

Pick: Ravens

6. 9:35 PM  NWSL Championship: Seattle Reign vs. Kansas City

I admittedly know very little about this league, but it is basically the women’s MLS.  This championship match is being played in Oregon, so it is at a neutral location.  However, I’m sure there will be more Seattle fans there given the location.  Seattle has been the best team in the league all year long and finished the year in 1st place with a 13-4-3 record.  They led the league with 41 goals scored and only conceded 21 goals.  Kansas City finished in 3rd place with a 9-5-6 record.  They had 32 goals scored and 20 conceded.  Both teams are in strong form right now with Seattle winning 8 of their last 9 and KC winning 5 of their last 6.  Both teams easily won 3-0 in the Semi-finals to get to this stage.  Each team took care of business at home against each other, splitting the season series 1-1.  Historically, these teams have met 10 times over the last 3 seasons with KC winning 6, Seattle winning twice, and 2 draws.  I think the edge here has to go with Seattle given their offensive firepower.  Both teams are strong defensively.  The location favors Seattle as well.

Pick: Seattle Reign
